# Sawmills Agent

> Sawmills Agent is a conversational AI interface for investigating telemetry, automating recurring work, and collaborating with your team.

## Overview

Sawmills Agent provides a conversational way to work with telemetry in Sawmills. Use it to investigate telemetry, automate recurring work, and share results with your team.

Sawmills Agent can be available in the Sawmills product and, when enabled for your workspace, in Slack.

## Main Capabilities

### 1. Conversations

Use Sawmills Agent to ask questions, continue an investigation over time, and keep related work in a single conversation. Conversations can include follow-up questions, files, and titles.

See [Conversations](/docs/sawmills-agent-conversations).

### 2. Collaboration

You can share a conversation, continue it with teammates, and use the same conversation history during handoffs or incident work.

See [Collaboration](/docs/sawmills-agent-collaboration).

### 3. Memory

Sawmills Agent uses conversation context so you do not need to restate everything in every message. This is useful for follow-up questions and longer investigations.

See [Memory](/docs/sawmills-agent-memory).

### 4. Skills

Skills give Sawmills Agent a predefined way to handle common tasks. They help make repeated workflows more consistent across your workspace.

See [Skills](/docs/sawmills-agent-skills).

### 5. Tasks

Tasks let you run agent work in the background. Use them for one-time, manual, or recurring work such as regular summaries and scheduled checks.

See [Tasks](/docs/sawmills-agent-tasks).

### 6. Notifications

Tasks and workflows can send updates through supported notification channels so results can reach the right person or team.

See [Notifications](/docs/sawmills-agent-notifications).

### 7. Roles and Access

What Sawmills Agent can do depends on your role and workspace configuration. In many workspaces, members can use the agent for investigations while administrators can also manage workspace-level behavior.

See [Roles and Access](/docs/sawmills-agent-roles).

### 8. Slack

When Slack is enabled, Sawmills Agent can be used in direct messages, channel mentions, and threads.

See [Slack](/docs/sawmills-agent-slack).

### 9. Instrumentation Reviewer

Instrumentation Reviewer helps teams improve telemetry quality across logs, metrics, and traces. It can review instrumentation for consistency, reduce noisy or low-value telemetry, support shared standards across services, and help control observability costs before issues spread across production systems.

The Agent includes a **Code Findings** tab where teams can review Instrumentation Reviewer analytics across connected GitHub and GitLab repositories.

See [Instrumentation Reviewer](/docs/sawmills-agent-instrumentation-reviewer).

This capability is currently in closed beta.

## Best Use Cases

Sawmills Agent works best when you want to:

* investigate unusual telemetry behavior
* summarize findings for teammates
* automate recurring analysis
* share results in Sawmills or Slack
